About Delaware SBDC: Frequently Asked Questions
Delaware SBDC services are available to residents of Delaware and to other entrepreneurs and small businesses planning to open a business in Delaware or that have significant operations in the state. Entrepreneurs and small businesses from other states should utilize the services of the SBDC in their home state for assistance if they are not residents of Delaware or do not plan significant operations within Delaware.
SBDC clients range in size from one person, part-time, start-up micro businesses to companies with up to 500 employees and millions of dollars in sales. SBDC can assist businesses in virtually any industry.
The Delaware SBDC can only provide business advising services to for-profit companies. Due to our cooperative agreement with the SBA, the SBDC cannot assist clients who engage in the sale and possession of marijuana or who are federally debarred. SBDC services are provided in a nondiscriminatory way to all legal residents and citizens in the U.S.
All SBDC advisors, employees and vendors agree to abide by the Delaware SBDC’s Code of Conduct. Any information you provide is kept confidential and will not be released to any parties outside of the Delaware SBDC network without your prior approval. We keep data privacy top of mind, and are trained to use technology (including Artificial Intelligence) ethically and responsibly.
The Delaware SBDC does not directly provide small businesses with funding. Instead, advisors work with clients to identify, prepare for, and apply for funding opportunities such as grants and loans.
The SBDC is powered by a grant provided to the University of Delaware through the federal and state government. SBDC staff are University of Delaware employees and operate within the University’s Office of Economic Innovation and Partnerships.
The SBDC is sponsored by, and partially grant-funded by, the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) but operates as a standalone program. The SBDC program represents the SBA’s largest service delivery network, and is responsible, in cooperation with the appropriate SBA District Office, for developing programs and providing services that help to meet the economic development goals and objectives of the SBA.
