EDGE Grant

The Delaware Division of Small Business recognized 15 small businesses as winners of the fourth round of Encouraging Development, Growth, and Expansion (EDGE) Grants. Providing new and exciting opportunities to businesses across the state each year, EDGE Grant winners are chosen via a rigorous application and selection process.

“The EDGE Grant program is helping our state’s newest small businesses expand and innovate by providing much-needed capital assistance that these businesses may not have access to otherwise,” said Governor Carney. “The small businesses awarded a grant in this latest round of EDGE are creating unique solutions and products that set them apart from their competition. They represent the best Delaware has to offer, and we are excited to see how the grant funds help their businesses grow.”

One Way Insurance Group

A multilingual independent insurance agency specializing in auto, home, business, and life and employee benefits, One Way Insurance will use its EDGE grant to purchase a van and convert it into a mobile office to reach more clients and provide financial literacy to the communities it serves. The company says, “Insurance is something everybody needs but not something everybody understands, and this grant will help them reach and help more people.” In a video shared by the company, Gigi Jean says, “I feel like the whole community won this grant.”

When the company first applied for the EDGE grant they were discouraged but were able to receive help from useful resources that allowed them to ultimately be an EDGE grant winner. One Way Insurance Group wants to inspire others to go after all the resources that are out there to help small businesses similar to theirs, the Delaware Small Business Development Center being one of those resources. The company reached out to their SBDC Advisor, Lissette Cabrera-Galloza, regarding applying for the Edge Grant in September. Lissette worked closely with Gigi in reviewing, providing feedback and tips, and corrections to ensure that the application was ready.

“A special thank you to the Delaware Small Business Center for being a resource to us to be able to recieve this grant. They played a huge part in us getting this grant and we want to say thank you.”
