To kick off the 2024 holiday season, the DSBDC spread awareness about the power shoppers have in purchasing products/services within the Newark community. It is through each purchase that small businesses are able to keep their doors open and obtain a livelihood for themselves and their families. The DSBDC embraces the power of connection, education, and the fulfillment of nurturing dreams. Here is how the DSBDC made an impact during the season of giving:
Small Business Workshops
Education is one important element in the foundation of a successful small business. Most small business owners who have a dream or an idea they wish to see come to life are unsure of how to start. The DSBDC worked to provide clarity for aspiring entrepreneurs who had questions in the fields of obtaining licenses, securing funding, planning, finances, accounting principles, and any pressing questions pertaining to the individual. How To Start A Business: Experiencing the Magic of Entrepreneurship
This workshop will provide an overview of starting a business in Delaware and give potential entrepreneurs an opportunity to get answers to their most pressing questions. Attendees will learn about things to consider before starting a business including – Business Licenses needed, Insurance, Forms of Business, Funding, Business Plan outline, and much more. Setting Up QuickBooks for Small Businesses Interactive Workshop
Get your cash flow in order before the holiday rush! Join the Delaware SBDC, Wilmington Alliance, and Emerging Enterprise Center for a “hands on” interactive QuickBooks Workshop! You will learn:
- The Basics of Accounting Principles
- How to Set Up Your QuickBooks Account
- Navigate through key features of managing your business financials
Laptops are needed to set up a QuickBooks account. The event is IN PERSON located at the Emerging Enterprise Center (920 Justison St, Wilmington, DE 19801). Doors open at 8:30 AM and the session starts promptly at 9:00 AM.

Shop Small Visits 2024
For Small Business Saturday, the DSBDC engaged in community walks visiting small business owners within their establishments. Obtaining better insights into the aspirations of these determined entrepreneurs, we were able to support their aspirations while giving back to the community.
Downtown Wilmington Merchants Meeting
Delaware SBDC Communications Manager, Caroline Hermance, presented to Downtown Wilmington businesses on tips and tricks to shop small marketing campaigns during the holiday season.
Shop Small Downtown Milford Walk
Delaware SBDC staff, Gabrielle Latinski, visited local businesses in Milford alongside the Delaware Division of Small Business, SBA Delaware District Office, and the City of Milford Economic Development Office.

Shop Small Rehoboth Beach Walk
Delaware SBDC Center Director, Tom Thunstrom, joined the Delaware Division of Small Business, Small Business Administration, and Rehoboth Beach Main Street program to visit local businesses in preparation for Shop Small Saturday.
