Success Story: Traveling Roots Wellness

Traveling Roots Wellness (TRW), a healthcare venture with a mission has been making an impact in the Delaware Amish communities since its inception just six months ago. This success story is a testament to the incredible potential that dedicated individuals, like Jessica Lehman, PA-C, and her Supervising Physician, Dr. Dheeraj Taranath, can achieve with the right support.

TRW was born out of a vision to bring acute healthcare to the Delaware Amish communities. Understanding their challenges, including transportation difficulties and language barriers, Jessica Lehman and Dr. Taranath decided to take healthcare to them. They provide acute medical visits in the comfort and confidence of Amish homes, making healthcare more accessible and enriching the lives of those they serve. TRW has rapidly expanded its services, finding new ways to support its community.

In just six short months, TRW has achieved significant milestones. They have diagnosed critical illnesses such as cancer, allowing patients to undergo surgery for treatment. They have helped numerous children with injuries ranging from scalp lacerations to broken bones and recurrent ear infections. Additionally, TRW has performed laboratory draws right at their patients’ kitchen tables for primary care doctors or specialists, removed ingrown toenails, and offered treatment for various acute illnesses. They have also provided valuable assistance to those dealing with chronic diseases.

SBDC Advisor, Lissette Cabrera-Galloza, has been a partner in TRW’s journey to success. One of her key contributions was assisting TRW in applying for a sizeable grant opportunity – while TRW didn’t secure the grant in this instance, Lissette provided valuable feedback and guidance to help them refine their approach for future attempts. She also helped create TRW’s operating agreement, laying a strong foundation for the business.
