Focus on improving Mobile Device Security this month

Newark, DE – The Delaware Small Business Development Center (SBDC), a hub for cybersecurity education, are offering a new Mobile Device Security Checklist – for free. During Cybersecurity Awareness Month, our advisors recommend diving into mobile device security practices to protect your small business.

Why does mobile device security matter?

Mobile devices, like smartphones, tablets, and smartwatches, collect an ever-growing amount of sensitive information. Given an estimated 302 million smartphone users are in the United States alone, more cybercriminals are targeting mobile devices than ever before.

As SBDC Digital Solutions Manager Jacob Blacksten shared, “many people do not protect their mobile devices the same way they protect their personal computers – most attackers know this and have been designing attacks to specifically target mobile devices.” For business owners and individuals alike, now is the time to survey your mobile device security plans and be sure that you’re doing all you can to protect your data. Checking in on your password management tools, device settings, and app permissions is just the beginning. Additionally, Blacksten recommends that businesses audit their security plans using the free Mobile Device Security Checklist offered by the Delaware SBDC. Shared nationwide, this new tool offers a quick, checklist-style visual to guide you on a path to better security.

The Delaware SBDC has offered small businesses and entrepreneurs the tools and expertise to grow and succeed for nearly 40 years. With a dynamic team of advisors and a diverse network of partners serving the entire state of Delaware, our program is here to help solve your business problems – including those questions about cybersecurity. Our Data Assured program, curated by Blacksten, serves small businesses with varying resources on all things cyber – check out the Data Assured pages here.
