SBA Administrator Maria Contreras-Sweet Congratulates Americas SBDCs on their 35th Birthday.
Business has changed a lot in 35 years, from the introduction of new technologies to the expansion of global trade. Small Business Development Centers (SBDCs) have been there throughout — helping small businesses succeed through every stage, no matter the industry. Small business owners represent the backbone of the American economy and make the American entrepreneurial spirit a reality every day.
Today, a new business is opened by an SBDC long term client every 33 minutes; a new job is created in the U.S. by an SBDC long term client every 7 minutes; $100,000 in new sales are generated by SBDC long term clients every 4 minutes; and $100,000 in capital is obtained by SBDC long term clients every 15 minutes.
In celebration of the big birthday, SBA created a commemorative medal and certificate which Ms. Contreras-Sweet presented to a representative from each network at a ceremony on September 11th in San Francisco at ASBDC’s National Conference.
